I gained a National Diploma in Design from Wolverhampton College of Art in 1964 and was awarded a fellowship to study industrial design for a further year in London. I worked as a freelance designer and illustrator for 35 years, while at the same time developing my lifelong interest in woodcarving and sculpture using traditional tools.
I have completed projects commissioned by British Waterways, the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal Society, Staffordshire County Council and millennium projects for two Staffordshire parish councils. These have combined hand carved lettering with relief carving. All my public works in Staffordshire are listed and illustrated in PMSA National Archive held at the Courtauld Institution The Staffordshire Volume 2003 www.pmsa.org.uk
I am now concentrating on producing wood sculpture inspired by nature and this has led to both private and public commissions. A sculpture has been on loan to the permanent collection at Nature in Art, Gloucester since 1997.
I was artist in residence at the National Waterways Museum, Gloucester in 1996 and 1997 and annually at Nature in Art, Twigworth, near Gloucester since 1998. I have been an adult education tutor for both fine art and woodcarving for many years and give occasional lectures to adults and children.
