The Electric Picture House

About Us

The Electric Picture House Artists Co-operative is a new artist ran venture based in Congleton , Cheshire

We are a diverse group of local artists  currently going through the process of converting an old building in Congleton into artists studios, gallery and workshop space.

When complete , we will provide studios for artists, and will hold regular exhibitions and workshops for the public to enjoy.

Electric Picture House buildingThe Building

The building has a long history and has been used for many different things, including

  • Cinema – Congleton’s First electric cinema opening in 1911
  • Faustian Mill
  • Garage
  • Ambulance Station
To mark the centenary since the building opened as a cinema we are looking to find as much information as possible about the buildings history and are hoping to show some of the films that were originally shown on the opening night in 1911.

Part of our aim with the project is to engage the local community with the arts and to work in tandem with other local organisations and artists to run community based art projects and workshops.
