Allan is above all else a painter. His subject matter ranges from landscapes to figures, from observation to imagination, from reality to dreams. The consistent thread in his work is constant experimentation and accepting the creative challenge that the first mark on the canvas will hopefully lead in exciting, as yet unknown directions. He aims to produce artwork which is prompted by our environment but does not copy it, reflects what surrounds us but takes on a unique life and meaning of its own. In 2018 Allan and his wife moved back to England (Chapel-en-le-Frith) after living and teaching in Northern Ireland for thirty years. His work was extensively exhibited throughout the Province, and was well received in galleries in both the major cities of Derry and Belfast. He enjoyed collaborating with fellow artists in many group exhibitions. Now, inspired by new visual experiences here in Derbyshire, he is looking forward to the next chapter of his painting career.
